Overview
The Senior Electrical Engineer leads the design effort for an innovative delivery method incorporating sound engineering principles with time, cost and manufacturing considerations. The role is responsible for developing complete building electrical system solutions, including power distribution, lighting and controls, emergency power, and medium-voltage systems, while ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. They will establish technical standards and collaborate closely with clients and internal teams to drive high-quality, customer-focused solutions. This position plays a key role in advancing technical excellence, supporting strategic initiatives, and fostering strong stakeholder relationships to ensure overall project success.
This role serves as a senior technical and departmental leader, driving continuous improvement in engineering processes, design quality, and constructability while supporting preconstruction pursuits and client relationships. The Senior Electrical Engineer plays a key role in optimizing design for cost, schedule and competitive advantage across both preconstruction and execution phases.
This is a full-time exempt position and reports to our Executive VP of Preconstruction. Our office is open from 6am-5pm; team members have flexibility with their daily work schedule, based on their needs and the needs of their team and the work.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical design and engineering of various projects, including electrical power distribution, lighting and lighting controls, emergency power and medium and low voltage systems.
- Participate in all phases of project planning and execution, including proposal development and financial oversight.
- Support project pursuits by reviewing bid documents to identify design optimizations, constructability improvements, and alternative approaches that enhance competitiveness and reduce risk.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure best practices in electrical system design and delivery.
- Actively integrate input from construction teams, field leadership, prefabrication, estimating and project management into the design process to ensure designs are buildable, efficient, and aligned with execution strategies.
- Provide clear design direction to maintain project scope, schedule and budget.
- Evaluate and optimize electrical designs with a focus on cost efficiency, labor productivity, material availability, and project schedule.
- Serve as a leader of continuous improvement within the engineering department by identifying, recommending, and implementing improvements to design standards, workflows, tools, and quality control processes.
- Provide mentorship, guidance and training to staff in electrical design principles, technical skills, value-driven design, constructability, and efficient problem-solving.
- Communicate with customers in the form of meetings and presentations to understand and define their needs, provide project status, and respond to requests or concerns – both verbal and written.
- Participate in client meetings and project interviews as a technical leader representing Sequoyah’s engineering capabilities and approach.
- Identify areas of improvements for various project phases including concept development, preliminary design, and final design.
- Drive quality control efforts, including structured reviews of calculations, drawings, and specification for accuracy, code compliance, constructability, cost efficiency, and risk mitigation.
- Serve as the electrical authority of electrical systems, codes, and standards.
- Review and approve electrical calculations, drawings and specifications.
- Collaborate with estimating and project teams to align design decisions with project budgets, procurement strategies, and construction sequencing.
Education and Experience Qualifications
- Minimum of 10+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent work experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Strong knowledge and familiarity of the National Electrical Code (NEC), International Building Code (IBC) and local energy codes.
- Strong working knowledge of Bluebeam and Microsoft Office Suite.

- Proven experience leading electrical design projects.
- Demonstrated ability to balance technical excellence with cost, schedule, and constructability considerations.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence internal teams and clients through clear, solutions technical leadership.

- Ability to see, hear well (either naturally or with correction) and speak clearly
- Coordinate the movement of your eyes, hands, and fingers
- Physical requirements include sitting, standing and bending, repetitive motions of hands and wrists
- Reach for, handle, use fingers and manipulate objects
- Must be capable of working extended hour days when job/business needs demand

Base Salary Range: $170,000 – 220,000
