Business Development Leader
Overview
We’re seeking a dynamic, results-driven Business Development Leader to join our team. This role is equal parts sales leader and hands-on seller. You’ll be responsible for developing deep, trusted relationships with the region’s largest general contractors, driving all revenue-generating activities across the organization, and championing a high-performance sales culture at every level of the business.
Reporting directly to the President, the Business Development Leader will lead sales strategy, client acquisition, marketing, proposal development strategy, and cross-division collaboration to ensure long-term, sustainable growth.

This is an exempt position and is based out of our Redmond, WA headquarters and is a fully in-office role. Our office is open from 6am-5pm; team members have flexibility with their daily work schedule, based on their needs and the needs of their team and the work.
Responsibilities
- Drive new business opportunities by building and nurturing strong, lasting relationships with Washington State’s top commercial General Contractors.
- Actively engage in strategic pursuits and deal-making activities with both existing and prospective clients.
- Collaborate across all Sequoyah divisions (Preconstruction, New Construction, Special Projects, Tenant Improvements, Low Voltage Technologies, Service, etc.) to create and track a comprehensive revenue strategy, and work closely with them to meet revenue goals.
- Serve as the voice of the customer internally, ensuring exceptional execution across all client-facing engagements.
- Cultivate a company-wide sales mindset by training, mentoring, and empowering Client-Facing Leaders (CFLs) to strengthen their customer relationships and business acumen.
- Lead the proposal and RFP-response strategy process to ensure Sequoyah is positioned to win via compelling, competitive submissions.
- Oversee marketing and brand strategy, working closely with the Marketing Manager to align messaging, visibility, and Go-to-Market (GTM) initiatives with company goals.
- Track KPIs, report on performance to executive leadership, and constantly refine our GTM playbook.
- Manage the tracking, reporting, data accuracy, and pipeline planning within Unanet, our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software platform.

For this role, we seek a well-connected Business Development Leader with a proven track record and ability to build relationships, identify opportunities, and close complex deals in the construction and subcontractor space. The right person is highly strategic while also able to be tactical and consider the details; someone equally comfortable mapping sales strategy as they are engaging in front-line selling. They are results-driven, bring high energy, and have strong written and verbal communication skills. Success in this position requires a leader of leaders, someone who inspires teams and elevates those around them with clear expectations, coaching, and accountability. Skills and Abilities
What You Bring
- 10+ years of experience in business development, sales leadership, and/or client acquisition—preferably within commercial construction, electrical contracting, or related sectors
- Deep understanding of the construction ecosystem in the Pacific Northwest, including existing relationships with top GCs and developers
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and drive alignment across operations, marketing, and leadership teams
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
- A proven track record of leading winning proposal and RFP processes
- Experience overseeing marketing and GTM efforts preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field; MBA a plus
