Overview 

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Designer to work closely with engineers, architects, general contractors, and owners to deliver complete design-build projects. The Senior Electrical Designer directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of the engineering project within the area of assigned responsibility. They will create full electrical design drawing packages integrated with the input of field experts, estimators, and prefabrication. 

This is a full-time exempt position and reports to the Lead Electrical Engineer of our Preconstruction department. Our office is open from 6am-5pm; team members have flexibility with their daily work schedule, based on their needs and the needs of their team and the work.

Responsibilities 

The Senior Electrical Designer handles all aspects of detailed engineering design work and assists with production as needed. This includes creating drawing packages from Schematic Design (SD) through Construction Documents (CD), along with all associated floor plans, diagrams, schedules, compliance forms, and specifications. The role requires collaboration with the Preconstruction project manager, Preconstruction teams, and the installation team during both design and construction phases and managing the coordination of both internal and external contributors and stakeholders.

Additional responsibilities for this role include:

  • Researching and presenting design options, as well as collecting data to support design decisions
  • Communicating with customers to understand and define their needs, provide project status, and respond to requests or concerns – both verbal and written, as well as presenting to customers as needed
  • Utility coordination for both power and low voltage system providers
  • Reviewing drawings and researching codes to verify compliance with city, state, and county regulations and ensuring stringent quality control
  • Reviewing vendor information and submittals

Qualifications 

The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of experience in electrical design, including power and lighting systems. An associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management is strongly preferred, though not required.Additional qualifications needed for this role include:  

  • Strong knowledge and familiarity of the National Electrical Code (NEC), International Building Code (IBC) and local energy codes
  • Experience producing applications for permanent and temporary power services with Seattle City Light (SCL) and Puget Sound Energy (PSE)
  • Ability to produce energy code compliance forms for the Washington State Energy Code (WSEC), Seattle Energy Code (SEC), and International Energy Conservation Code (IECC)
  • Strong working knowledge of Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office Suite, and Autodesk REVIT required; SKM Power Tools or ETAP a plus

Success in this role requires the ability to manage several projects at various stages concurrently. You’ll need excellent organizational, electrical design, project management, task management, and problem-solving skills.
